Engineered Wood Flooring

Engineered Oak Flooring Engineered wood floors provide all the same benefits and stunning looks of a solid wood floor with the added advantage of much greater stability and lower movement values, which is why they are eminently suited for use in conjunction with underfloor heating systems. The greater stability of the board also means you can have a wider plank floor than you could achieve in a solid plank without fear of the board cupping or moving. Engineered wood flooring can either be fully glued down, secret nailed or floated.

Typically an engineered floor is constructed with a top wear layer of solid timber bonded onto a multiply or 3-ply substrate. Typically a 20-21mm thick board will have a 6mm wear layer and a 13-15mm board will have a 3-4mm wear layer. The 6mm wear layer on an engineered floor is the same thickness of real wood you would have on a solid board and can be sanded back and refinished just as often.

We can provide you with engineered hardwood flooring in a variety of different species either unfinished, or, prefinished in a range of different colours and protective coatings. In just our European Oak range we have a great selection to choose from, including unfinished, stained, fumed and burnt products which can all be sealed in a variety of coloured or non-coloured natural oils, lacquers and waxes. We can supply grades ranging from prime through to rustic and for that historic look we can also provide aged and distressed and hand scraped boards.

Solid Wood Flooring

Solid Oak Flooring We supply a wide range of solid wood flooring in both parquet and plank in a variety of temperate species from beautiful pale, light coloured woods such as Maple, Ash and Oak, right through to the darker Walnuts and exotic timbers like Merbau and Ipe. We can import, or produce to order, wide plank solid hardwood floors in long boards across a range of different grades, from very clean prime grade for that sleek modern look, right through to character and rustic grades for that more traditional real wood feel.

The same species, grades and finishes that are available in an engineered board are also found in our solid range, from prime grades to rustic grades with all the same finishing options, including coloured or non-coloured natural oils, lacquers and waxes and finishing options such as aged and distressed and hand scraped.

Solid wood floors can either be fully glued to the floor or secret nailed. You can sand back and refinish, or recoat solid wood floors several times, which adds to their appeal and to their long life. Solid wood flooring is not suitable for use in conjunction with underfloor heating. If your project incorporates underfloor heating into the build, and you wish to use it in conjunction with a hardwood floor, you must use an engineered board as they are far more stable.

Underfloor Heating

Underfloor Heating Brill Sawmills are experts, with years of experience supplying and installing engineered hardwood floors for use in conjunction with underfloor heating systems. We only recommend and guarantee an engineered floor as solid hardwood floors are not suitable due to the temperatures and stresses of the heated environment and the high movement of a solid board.

Underfloor heating systems tend to come in three different varieties, although there are a whole host of systems available on the market. Whether you are looking at installing a wet system sat inside a screed, a matting system or a tray system sat between the joists, we can provide the perfect board for you, in terms of performance and aesthetics and we have the technical expertise to help you make the right choice.

We can provide you with all the technical data you need in regards to thermal resistance and conductivity, which will help you get the right floor so your heating system runs as efficiently as possible. We are happy to offer free advice and guidance on the subject, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call us and talk through your project.
